The South of England Hamster Club is dedicated to encouraging the keeping, breeding and exhibiting of hamsters. The Club is one of the three affiliated to the National Hamster Council which is the oldest hamster organisation in the world (founded in 1949) The NHC has no members itself, people interested should join one of the affiliated clubs (The Midland or us, the South Of England Hamster Club).

The SOEHC is keen to attract members from all over the world and whilst our shows will be mainly of interest to members in England, we offer many services to members elsewhere. To this end we were (we believe) the first hamster club on the internet. You can email us at The South of England Hamster Club

One of the SOEHC's aims is to further the understanding and welfare of hamsters in captivity and to these ends many of our members undertake their own research into many aspects of hamster care including diseases (cure and prevention), genetics and breeding programs (maintenance of endangered colours and development of new natural mutations). As part of this ongoing work we welcome opinions and observations from hamster keepers everywhere.

Benefits of membership

Membership of the club is open to anyone with an interest in hamsters, from owners with a single pet to large hamsteries with hundreds of animals. We cater for owners and breeders of all the species of hamster kept in captivity, including the Syrian (Golden) (Mesocricetus auratus), the Campbell's Dwarf Russian (Phodopus sungoris campbelli), Winter White (Phodopus sungoris sungoris), Chinese (Cricetulus griseus) and the rare Roborovski's hamster (Phodopus roborovski), the smallest species at approximately 4 cm long.

The SOEHC is a non-profit making club run by volunteers and the current membership fee is 8.50 pounds sterling per annum for UK members. Overseas membership costs will be calculated for the extra cost of postage of the club journals, please ask us for the exact cost for your country. If you would be interested in joining the club, then please email: The South of England Hamster Club, write or telephone (address and 'phone number below) and we will send you an application form and more details of the club or click here for an application form.
